New sharing framework
Google Home app
(2022–2024) Lead UX Designer
The problem
Today, the Google Home app supports only one member tier: co-equal members with full administrative privileges
This tier is fantastic for partners, spouses, and trusted people, but not suitable for many residents like teens and kids...or that roommate you just met on Craigslist.
Impact on users
People just won't add certain residents. This means the connected home doesn't work for everybody:
Roommates/kids don't benefit from presence-based automations (e.g. setting the temperature to a comfortable level when you're home).
This also means parents tolerating inconveniences like media pollution (Cocolemon and Baby Shark in media play history)
"Are we ever going to get the ability to control / manage access levels?”

Desired impact
We know a lot of people fall into this situation: "I will not add additional people with Manager access. Restricted access is a must to improve security!"
We want to see a large portion of this missing member gap added to homes, so that the connected home is useful to all residents!
